dream big

Whats up ViSports Nutrition Readers!?! I am finally back to put up a second blog. I am going to try to start getting one up every week for you guys! Thank you all for taking the time to read my first one, and I hope these help you guys out with your own goals!!

Things with my training were going off course for about the last month, which has been very negative! About 4 weeks ago I was in the gym training Chest and I laid down into an incline bench press machine(check out the image), I prefer machines when training chest for many reasons I will post about in my next blog, but the handles were just a little too low so when I pushed to lift them up my right bicep had to handle too much of the weight and I felt a light pull in the bicep. I was able to continue the workout and even come back the next day, but as the

Bodybuilding Forum – Bigger Muscles? How?

Bodybuilding Forum – Bigger Muscles? How?

How to get ‘Bigger Muscles’? The answer is simple …lift BIG. Big movements with Big weight creates BIGGER muscles.

bigger muscles

Movements for Big Muscles

bigger musclesBent over row, chin ups, bench press, squat, deadlift.  All are big, multi-joint movements. This means you will be able to lift more weight. All of these big weight exercises do not involve machines, they use free weights involving barbells and dumbbells, which have significant benefits over machines. Free weights are safer as they replicate natural motions. Machines perform unnatural movement patterns which can cause injuries. Free weights are also more efficient. They force you to control and balance the weight thus building bigger muscles than machines where the weight is balanced for you. Free weights are more functional as bigger muscles built on machines does not transfer to real life.  For a great comparison of free weight versus machines, read this askmen article.  These exercises may not isolate particular muscles to build them effectively. What they will do is use more muscles in the body as many will be used to stabilize the body. Building stabilizer muscles is equally as important for a well rounded physique.

Bodybuilding Forum – Supplements for Teen Bodybuilders

Bodybuilding Forum- Supplements for Teen Bodybuilders

The first topic of our bodybuilding forum: “What supplements should I take?” – the biggest question asked by teens about training.

The following information was compiled by a 20 yr old bodybuilder who wishes to remain anonymous.

 supplement useSupplements in the Marketplace

Firstly I would like to say that I have tried most supplement types out there whether its protein, BCAAs (Branched-Chain Amino-Acids), Pre-Workout formula etc. I also research many in my spare time, including the dosages for them to be effective but not unsafe as well as the right time to be putting them into your system.

Many people see the bold marketing claims and see a professional claiming that the supplement works. The first thing they want to do is try it because the pro takes it and they look like THAT! However, 90% of the time these claims are mostly hype or do actually work but for a top athlete. For example, the pros have 6-8+ meals a day, which are timed perfectly to keep them in an anabolic state. Add to that, they have crazy genetics and they are on many supplements that you don’t even need to be thinking about. But while the majority of these products won’t work, there are some that do.

Working Out as a Beginner

Hey everyone, I am Genie and I am pleased to be able to share my story, or should I say, my fitness journey with all of you.

working out - LundgrenLet me start at the very beginning. I first fell in love with working out when I was a little kid, I used to watch action movies and at the end I would want to be like those tough guys in the movies, be it your heroes like Van Damme or your villains like Dolph Lundgren. My friends and I would stage neighbourhood fighting competitions to see who the best fighter in our neighbourhood was; I also used to read martial arts books and work out at home by myself.

Training While Travelling

I was born in Geneva, Switzerland. My parents lived in France back then, but it only took 2 years for us to move back to my birth place. I lived in Switzerland until the age of 6, that is when my father finally realized his dream. We embarked on the boat he had been building for almost seven years onto a journey that would take us from France, across the Mediteranian and the Atlantic ocean, traveled along the West Indies, all the way down to South America and ended up in Florida. This is where we left our boat and returned to land. But not to Switzerland, we had moved to Botswana. after 6 years of living there, we returned to our boat for another 2 years, same as the first voyage, and eventually returned back to Botswana. We chose Africa because my mother was born and raised in Zimbabwe and did not want to raise my sister and I in Europe. My older brother also joined us in Africa.

A Future Strength and Conditioning Trainer

deadlift trainingI have been training on and off for 5 years. As a lot of teenage boy do, I went to the gym to try and be bigger and stronger than my friends and for the sports I played. I started at my school gym in my home town Newquay in Cornwall to improve my strength for rugby. The coach there was very much a power lifter so his outlook on training was very different from that of a bodybuilder but still as every teenager does when they start, go all out, guns blazing on the bicep curls and bench press trying to show off in front of his friends. Yes, I was ‘That guy’. A year later my bench and curls had increased but I didn’t have the gains that others did who did squats and deadlifts. These are the two most effective exercises for muscle building ,bar none.
